Citric Acid

Citric Acid is a weak organic acid with the formula of C6H8O7. It is used as a cleaning solution for membrane filters in wastewater and boiler water treatment. It is also an excellent chelating agent by binding metals, it removes lime scale depositions from boilers and evaporators otherwise known as softening water. By chelating these metals in hard water, it lets these cleaners produce foam and work better without the additional need for water softening.

In industrial usage, citric acid is used to dissolve rust and passivate stainless steel surfaces. Coupled with antibacterial components, it helps maintain the pH level of the cleaner. The buffering properties of citrates are used in controlling the pH of household cleaners and pharmaceuticals. It is specifically amalgamated with wetting agent, together in turn acts as rust remover for the several industrial set ups, such as boilers, heat exchanger tubes and so forth.
